After lining it up properly, I tacked it in from the outside. These tacks will come off later when I do the back gouging. Then I preheated it all which took ages as its so thick. Next I welded the ring in from the inside. 3 runs the same as I have done for all the other carbon steel welds. This is now ready to back gouge from the other side.
